A Life Of Sacrifice
Scripture Reading: “Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.” – (Romans 12:1 Amp)
As I prayerfully pondered on today’s devotion (which I really wanted to make a tribute to the mothers), one word continually stood out to me.
That word was “sacrifice”.
I thought I really knew what it meant; but when I looked it up in the dictionary I saw it a little bit clearer than I had before.
In a nutshell, sacrifice means to give up something for the sake of something else.
Almost anytime I mention that word, there’s one primary event that often comes to mind; that event is when Jesus Was sacrificed on the cross so that we might have life. He gave up something (his life) for the sake of something else (our life).
And I think Mothers are the same way. They are oftentimes found giving up something for the sake of something else that will make life so much better, and beneficial, for their children.
I’ve witnessed this with my own wife since the time that God brought Amberly into our lives.
She (Amberly Renae Lowe) is a handful, as most babies are, and she requires almost round the clock attention. Everyone in the house is willing to oblige, for the most part.
But when she wakes up at 2 o’clock in the morning, and is unwilling to go back to sleep until maybe 5 or so, it takes great “sacrifice” to console her and hang in there with her until she’s comfortable and ready to go to sleep; and my wife is always giving up her sleep to see that Amberly is okay.
Daddys aren’t built for that! (Lol)
That takes sacrifice!
Yet, when I consider mothers, that’s a word that I believe absolutely applies.
Of course, I believe that God would have us all be a people of sacrifice; The scripture Above confirms such. “….present your bodies as a living sacrifice…”
So, my prayer for today (and everyday) is “Lord, Grant that I be a man willing to give up what means much to me, for the sake of your kingdom, and the blessing and benefit of others..”
Happy Mother’s Day to All of The Mother’s
And Peace and Blessings to Everyone Else!!
