Depending On God

Scripture Reading: “O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.”  (Jeremiah 10:23)
This morning I was thinking on the words of Jesus when He said in John 15:5, “apart from me you can do nothing.”Out of all of the truths that I’ve had to come to learn in this brief journey of mine (in Christ), this has probably been one of the toughest to come to grips with; and I’m Still not there.
By nature, humans are proud, and for the most part, we like to believe that we  can do it (on our own), handle it (on our own), live a godly life (on our own), and conquer life (all on our own). That’s just the way of human nature.
But, if we were capable and had the strength to deliver, direct, and guide ourselves there would have been no need for a savior!
Here’s God’s verdict on this…. “For when we were without strength, in due time, Christ died for the ungodly.” (Romans 5:6)
We’ve been without strength from the very start.
God sent his Son into the world because we needed help. I desperately needed help (and still do).
Yet, just because I received that help by way of repentance and putting my faith and trust in his sacrifice for me (death, burial, and resurrection), does not mean that I no longer need his help and guidance for my life.
This is something that I’ve had to be reminded of over and over again.
The answers are not in me; but in God.
As I learn to depend upon Him, and trust His direction for my life, I’m discovering that Life becomes so much better, and a lot less stressful.
We will never be disappointed when we truly Depend On God.

May Peace and Strength Be Yours In Christ,
Pastor Lowe
