The Evidence Of Trust
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee." - Isaiah 26:3 I can remember growing up hearing my grandmother quote quite a few scriptures around the house. It seemed like she had a verse for almost every circumstance that we would go through in life. I could always tell which ones were her favorites, because those would be the ones that she would quote the most. Reading and looking over Isaiah 26:3 earlier this week reminded me of her, because this was one of her very "favorite" verses of scripture. In fact, this is the only one that I can recall hearing her quote at the top of her lungs almost every time she made mention of it. I'm not exactly sure why, but I can only imagine that it was because this one was worthy of extra emphasis; and also, because she had experienced and come to know the reality of it's Truth for herself. Whenever one of us would go through some sort of turmoil of our own, and would be totally anxious and worried about the outcome of the situation, "momma" would never allow us to leave her house carrying the same fear or worry that we came with. I can still hear her now..... 'THOU WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON THEE........ BECAUSE HE TRUSTETH IN THEE.... HALLELUJAH!!" I didn't know this at the time, nor did I realize and grasp it, but that is a literal Promise! Isaiah said, Thou (God) will keep in Perfect (and constant) Peace the one whose mind is [committed and focused on you....], because he trusts in you. In other words, trust God, and keep your mind on Him, and He will keep you in Perfect Peace. This peace is not a temporal peace, or a peace that is penetrable; but a peace that can overrule fear, agitation, worry, anxiety, or any circumstance that may come our way. Where is my mind and affections set today? In Whom do I trust? If it's The Lord, His peace will be the evidence that I'm truly trusting in Him. Lord, Help us to keep our minds and hearts stayed on you, and grant that we trust you constantly with all of our heart. It's only by the help of your Hand that this is possible; therefore, we invite you to be The Help we need. In His Love, Pastor Lowe
