Strength For The Journey
And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” – (1 Kings 19:7 NKJV)
In this morning’s meditation and devotion, I was thinking on all that we’ve endured over the past year, and I realized that it was the Strength and Grace of God that Had kept us, even up to this point.
In my thought, I was also reminded of something that the Angel of the Lord told the prophet Elijah during one of the darkest moments of his life: he said
“Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.”
The food that he was instructed to eat was food and drink that was supernaturally provided by heaven (God Himself); and what was provided “supernaturally” would be instrumental in helping him continue on “naturally”.
In fact, the scripture says, “And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights….”
In other words, what he ate and drank became the strength to carry him through his journey; a journey that was said to be “too great for him”.
The Journey of Life, for many of us, is a journey that is entirely too great at various junctures along the way; and what is needed to make it through is the nurture supernaturally provided from heaven.
The Lord Himself said, “Man shall not Live by (natural) bread alone, but by every word (supernatural bread) that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4)
So, just as the angel instructed Elijah to do, I encourage you (and me too) to “Arise and Eat, for the journey (of Life) is too great.
You never know when you may need to run in the strength of that meat.
Lord, help us to daily Arise and Eat so that we might have (Your) Strength for The journey of life.
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Lowe
